5 Ways to Find Keywords That Deliver Superior Web Marketing Results

badge-guest-post-FLATTEREveryone knows that building organic traffic to a website starts with having great content. But the topics that have the best chance of attracting the most prospects often aren’t the most obvious ones.

The best content is both likely to rank highly in the search engines, and to motivate your visitors to become new customers for your business.

So where can you find these amazing keywords?

Because of your experience in your industry you probably already know many of the terms that describe the products and services your business offers.

But, I’ve found that the most obvious keywords usually have the greatest competition and the least engaged visitors, so you shouldn’t rely too heavily on these. Expand your list of keywords and you might find new topics that deliver huge marketing results for years to come.

Here are five great resources for finding article topics and keywords you may not have tapped yet for your content marketing efforts:

1. Your Competitors’ Websites

Your competitors are in the same business as you and they are trying to reach the same prospective customers, so try using their websites as sources for keywords. Look through their content and blogs and review their page titles and meta descriptions for keywords you’re not currently using.

You can also use a tool like SEMRush to view the top keywords a competitor ranks for in the search engines.

Seeing top keywords for your competitors gives you insight into their strategy as well as how your prospective customers think about their businesses.

2. Google Trends

Google Trends is a great tool that provides a list of related keywords and phrases based on Google’s own search topic data. The comparison feature is especially helpful because it allows you to compare different keywords side-by-side. In addition, the tool allows you to see keywords that are rising in popularity, view changes in interest for a specific keyword over time, and see how a keyword performs by region.

Related searches in Google Trends for the topic “website marketing” show other keywords that are on the rise. Consider these keywords around regular periods of change in your business like the holiday shopping season.

3. Wordtracker

Wordtracker is a free tool similar to the Google Adwords Keyword Tool. Just paste in an existing keyword from your website and you’ll get a list of similar keywords to consider.

Wordtracker gives you similar and related keywords in an easy to understand format.

4. BoostSuite

BoostSuite makes building a great content strategy quick and easy. Automatic opportunity discovery means you never miss a chance to create the right content at the right time.

5. Microsoft Advertising Intelligence

Google isn’t the only search engine in town. Dont forget that Microsoft and its Bing search engine are valuable tools as well. With Microsoft Advertising Intelligence you can build and expand your keyword list while working in a familiar program – Microsoft Excel.

This Excel plug-in lets you download relevant keywords from your existing site and provides keyword expansions that help you find new keyword opportunities.
